Day 68: just barely back on the trail. SNAKE UPDATE

Well we woke up and made it out of town. But cheap whiskey can take its toll. I'm not gonna name names but one of us (not me) was pretty hung over so we decided to take it easy today. 10 miles though so still ok all things considered. The weather threatened nastiness but it is blissful now at camp.

UPDATE
So the camp is beginning to fill up with late comers from the festi late night party. I decided to be a little less nerdy antisocial tent dweller and went to the fire to say hi. I was pleasantly surprised to find a snake skinned and skewered roasting over the fire. A rattlesnake! The muscular gentleman on the right in the pic below seems to be trying to eat all the different critters he comes across along the trail. He has done frog legs, black snake, snapping turtle, and this is his first go at rattlesnake. He said he just hit it over the head with his hiking pole! Dude is nuts.

He laid out the skin and when I asked if it needed some kind of treatment to keep it from becoming brittle he said he doesn't know. He then pulled.out a plastic bag with the leg of a snapping turtle.inside and said that after a week or.so this turtle.leg.seems.to be doing fine at becoming leather. I like this guy.
