Day 170: A beautiful approach to saddleback

A gorgeous hike today through the swampy maine forest. The trail goes up and over high points then settles into highland bogs draining big lakes. This seems to be the theme of upper maine. We haven't gotten past the hard stuff exactly, but at least its.only.mixed.in as opposed to the constant struggle. Yesterday tool us 11 hours to go 13 miles. Today we got 16 miles in 10 hours. This is our biggest mileage day in weeks.

We are camped at the base up saddleback mountain. I will be surprised if we can repeat today's mileage as the profile makes this mountain seem like a beast. At least we will tackle it in the cool of the morning.
