Day 15: Marooned at the NOC

We were supposed.to go downhill for 6 miles, stop at the Nantahala Outdoor  Center for some chacos, and then hike 6 miles up and out of the gorge. Twas the plan. But that plan went to shit because the NOC was awesome.

It was like an oasis playground. The outfitters had my chacos and I was able to send my old ones home along with my shoes and some other stuff. Then we crossed the bridge over the kayak course and went to the bar for BBQ and Beer!

We said one maybe 2 beer. That too went out the window. We ended up spending about 5 hours on the porch eating talking shopping and using WiFi to video chat with Adam.

But the rain kept.coming and we were not gonna sleep there, especially because there were rumors of a bed bug infestation.

We couldn't find the supposed stealth camping site nearby, probably because it was pouring and getting dark as we left with a six pack of IPA from the general store. So we hiked our sorry asses about a mile up hill and set up at the first site we found. The rain poured down the hill onto our site making a river under our tent. I channeled my old 7yr old self and played engineer in the diet digging a new path for the river around our tent. During that time my wet phone spazzed.out and I pocket dialed.Addie and Charlie Swor. Lol. Sorry guys.

Luckily the rain stopped.early.in the morn and a gentle breeze mostly dried.our stuff. All in all a pretty sweet day despite the miserable slip sliding downhill shit show for 6 miles and the miserable hike out. Thats how cool the NOC was. It made up for all the misery and made the day overall awesome!
