Day 23: just a few miles till we get out

Another cold night in the shelter. We woke up and ghost had left his socks on the tin roof. They were frozen solid. Today was half flat and half downhill to the last shelter before leaving the smokies. Great trail, great scenery, and eventually it warmed up.
When we got back to around 2000 ft the forest looked like spring again and the may apples are.blooming now.
The last shelter still has the fence and Gare to keep bears out. All the shelters used to be fenced in, but apparantly dumb asses were feeding bears through the fence and then the bears would go after hikers and need to be killed.
Can't wait to not have to be a sheltering. The end of the.smokies.is freedom.
