Day 7: Unicoi Gap to Kelly's Knob. Mile 63

We woke up in the rain thinking we weren't going to see the sky today. Just living in the mist. By the time we got to the top of tray mountain everything was still gray. On the way down we stopped at the shelter. Actually we stopped short of the shelter because we weren't sure how far it was and we could only see a few dozen feet ahead of us.

It started with a patch of blue and soon the sun was burning off the mist. But it seemed like it was only.working for our mountain because we couldn't see any others. Lucky us.

After lunch we headed back down into the cloud and hiked up and down. Thats our job now. Hike up. Hike down. And repeat ad infinitum.

I love my new job.

Eventually we were actually hot and ran out of water. But the spring was 0.2 miles down a steep hill. Ugh.

Coolest spring ever! It originated UNDER a tree. Tuck everlasting style. We are going to live forever.

Finished the day with a grueling slog up Kelly's knob. Tomorrow we take a nero and go in to Hiawassee for a resupply.

    1. We are all using the Sawyer squeeze system. I have a quick connect system that Howsit gave to me and I connect my filter to a water bottle instead of the bag. My sister prefers the bag style. Other popular systems are aqua mira and a few drops.of bleach. I avoid chlorine chemistry though, so don't plan on switching to bleach. We do, however use aqua mira when we get water at shelters.due to the.traffic.of tons of people.
