Day 109: Zero prep

Last night, we discovered that Ramen looks downright spectacular when placed under a single headlamp spotlight.

With only 9 miles to hike today we were in no hurry to leave the tent this morning as a thunderstorm rolled over us. Unfortunately this storm wetted the rocks we had to hike over, making what is normally an annoying task a little more annoying and a lot more hazardous.

But we made it down into Delaware water gap with no injuries. The gap itself was stunning, with sharp walls and some nice looking beaches. Maybe we will swim later. For now, it's walk into town for foods and beers. We ate at the sycamore grill and awaited the arrival of the great and wonderful Colonel.

Colonel arrived right on time with stories of plentiful craft beers and fresh foods. We can't say enough how awesome this is and how grateful we are to him for adopting us this weekend. He is amazing.

We drove into the Poconos to his family's cabin, which oddly and kinda hilariously is within a complex of cabins which are mostly owned by a Jewish summer camp. So we sit on his screened in front porch drinking beers while teenage counselors walk back and forth between the large halls near the front of the property and whatever is farther back. The cabin is old school awesome and has been in his family for a long time. It's comfortable and nostalgic and a perfect rest retreat for us. Ugh, I can't say enough how great this is.

We ended up going to a local brewery called Barley Creek for dinner mostly based on the fact that they served a triple IPA and we had an empty growler to fill, though the food was good too.

Then it was back to the cabin to shoot the shit and learn more about our most auspicious host( Did I use that word right yet?) and we ended up drinking beers till past 2am. Thats the latest we have stayed up since late March I am pretty sure.

Today, we take a zero, patch up gear and drink bum loads of coffee.
