Day 90: Harpers

We left Virginia in the morning for the last time and hiked into Historic Harper's Ferry and visited the ATC headquarters.

Harper's is indeed a tourist trap and the outfitters was horrible and we were completely confused about how we were going to resupply. Maybe the hostel up ahead?

So we hiked on out of town to where the hostel road was. Unfortunately,my.communications with the hostel front desk seemed like they only heard every other word I said, but eventually we established that they had no real resupply.options. so we ordered a pizza delivery and then decided to try and get a ride from a trail angel. But they couldn't come till 330. Plenty of time to eat the pizza. By 415, we decided.on the trail angel wasn't probably going to come and maybe we could.make it with our leftover food to the next resupply.option? Harper's was turning into a real shit show.

but we were soon rescued by a local fellow named John Newcomer who was thinking he was going to pick up his niece and her daughters. Instead he gave up on their showing up and offered to take us to wal mart amd back. Amazing!

John was awesome and told us a ton of history and his familial connections to the area. His family moved here in the 1860s and established free schools.for blacks, eventually helping establish the college. 3 generations later, the socialites of the area still spurn his family for their connection to helping black people. Wow. The south is still pretty backward obviously. Soon we will be on the north at least.

The resupply was.completed and we climbed out of town and had a great campsite on cliffs with a gorgeous sunset.
